Immigration Backlog Grows to over 1.84 million applications

It has been reported by CIC News that as of March 17th 2022, there are over 1.84 million people awaiting a decision on their immigration application. Express Entry programs have shown reduced numbers, in particular the Canadian Experience Class and the Federal Skilled Workers applications, which have decreased by over 10,000 in the last six weeks.

Some programs are still experiencing increasing numbers, contributing to the higher backlog, such as the Caring for Children program which increased by 1,500 during the first two weeks of March. The Temporary Residence category shows the highest overall increase of over 23,000 applicants during that same small time frame.

$85m has been allocated as part of the 2021 budget, with the aim of increasing processing times across all IRCC pathways, and enabling Canada to resume processing more efficiently.
