IRCC announces ambitious goal to process 80% of applications within 12 months

On 4th December 2021, Canadian immigration lawyer Steven Muerrens shared data via twitter, showing the numbers of caregiver applications that have been finalized between April 2020 and July 2021.

According to Mr Muerrens, IRCC’s goal is to process 80% of caregiver applications within 12 months of the received date, however, it is clear from the data that IRCC have failed to meet this target, even those who submitted their applications in the earliest stages of the caregiver programs.

The data shown in the Caregiver Weekly Report for the week ending July 24th 2021, shows that the HCCP quota of 2750 was exceeded within two months, yet the program wasn’t closed to new applications until the end of April 2021. The vast majority of new clients are still waiting for an application of receipt (AOR) yet for many of these clients who applied after the quote was met, but before IRCC closed, a rejection letter will be in it’s place. Despite the target of IRCC to process 80% of applications within one year of receipt, the percentages of those who have been processed are tiny.
