IRCC proposal aims to to provide immigration clients with meaningful updates

In 2020, a memorandum was sent to the Deputy Minister, proposing that immigration clients are provided with more meaningful updates on application processing.
COVID-19 has had a huge impact on IRCCs ability to effectively process applications for all Canadian immigration programs. The Home Childcare Provider pilot program for example, was launched in June 2019. Most of the processing for this program has taken place during the COVID-19 pandemic, yet the given processing times have been based on pre-covid estimations, rendering them irrelevant based on the current circumstances. The inaccuracy of this data has led to a surge in clients contacting IRCC, local politicians, and senior department officials directly, to seek more accurate information on their applications.
The memorandum proposes ways in which clients can be given a more accurate estimation of processing times, with relevant updates based on current data. It is suggested that this would be in the form of weekly updates on the Canadian government website, outlining the application dates in which IRCC are currently processing.
This information was obtained by Steven Muerrens, a Canadian immigration lawyer based in Vancouver. As well as being a practicing lawyer, he is also a well regarded author of a popular blog on Canadian immigration law, and is a regular panelist at immigration law conferences.
